Born and raised in Long Island, Dr. Patricia Matos-Puente received a BA in Music, while fulfilling her pre-medical requirements, from Wellesley College. She attended the SUNY school of Medicine at Stony Brook, graduating with her MD in 1984. She did an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Dr.Matos worked as an emergency department internist at the Nassau County Medical Center, a level I trauma center with 100,000 visits annually, from 1987-1994. She also worked in the Emergency departments of the Beth Israel Newark Medical Center, West Hudson Hospital in Kearny, and St. Joseph's in Paterson, from 1993-1997. She then moved to Beijing, China and joined the medical staff of a new US owned hospital, the Beijing United Family Hospital. In 2000, she relocated to Tokyo, Japan, where she worked as a physician for the US Embassy, caring for some 800 foreign service officers, and their families.

Dr. Matos returned to the States in 2004 and established her house call practice. She also worked at the VA Hospital in Northport Emergency Room and joined the staff at Huntington Hospital. Dr. Matos was an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Suppport for most of her career.

Married with 2 children, Dr. Matos is also an active musician, playing the oboe and English horn in the Stony Brook University Wind Ensemble, the Northport Community Band, and a woodwind quintet. She is on the Board of the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk, and the co-chair of the New York Regional Council for the Smithsonian Institute.
